Here are where all the STBL drafts took place. Some locations have been lost to memory, but this is as close to accurate as possible.

 

1990 - 9th and Russell, 2nd floor of course.

 

1991 - same place I assume (see 1992 draft).

 

1992 - 9th and Russell, 2nd floor. This is when I drafted Albert Belle and I remember it was here. I'm assuming the 2nd draft was held here as well.

 

1993 – 9th and Russell? Brady Anderson 1st pick to the Dealers.

 

1994 – 9th and Russell? Again not sure. 1st pick Jason Bere by Smitty. Loons land Greg McMichael and a guy named Manny Ramirez in the 1st round. Did we hold a draft at Chuck’s house (upstairs) one year?

 

1995 – I believe this one was at Steve Gude’s. 1st pick Jeff Hamilton by the Obi-Ones. I followed with the legendary Steve Ontiveros. Hardly any of our present managers had earth-shaking picks, the closest being Uncle G with Ryan Klesko with the 9th pick.

 

1996 - Very clear to me. Why? I landed Jim Edmonds with the 7th pick in Chuck's basement. The 1st pick was Steve Gude with Hideo Nomo, followed by the Zoots pluck of Charles Johnson. Chipper went with the 4th pick after the Wanderers selected Troy Percival.

 

1997 - A total blank. Could have been at Obie’s/Griffins. I think we held at least one draft there.

 

1998 - Waldo's. Hal Morris went 1st to the Penguins. Some guy named Ben Grieve went 2nd to the Starlings (who then eventually went to the Dogs).

 

1999 - Waldo's. J.D. Drew to the Zoots! New rolling dice are introduced this year.

 

2000 - Obi-Wan's basement in O'Fallon, MO. The famed pluck of Rick Ankiel - the pitcher.

 

2001 - Larry Weir's house. Rafael Furcal to the Singers and Dancers. Corey Patterson 2nd to the Highlanders.

 

2002 - Frederic's Music Lounge. Pujols or Ichiro? Ichiro or Pujols? Bush goes Ichiro and the rest is history.

 

2003 - Chuck's basement again. This time around he and Smitty are holed up in a new room Chuck has built - soon to become the famed Looney Bin. 1st pick Austin Kearns to the Penguins. The Great Mark Prior goes 2nd.

 

2004 - Chesterfield. (the 1st of two posh Hotel gatherings). Highlanders nab Teixeira. Singers and Dancers surprise with Morgan Ensberg over Miguel Cabrera, leaving the River Rat ecstatic.

 

2005 - Chesterfield again. Ground Hogs take David Wright. Zoots happily select Joe Mauer.

 

2006 - Schlafly Tap Room. River Rats select Felix Hernandez. Highlanders take another Patterson with a 2nd overall pick, this time John.

 

2007 - Atomic Cowboy. Amidst the dim lighting, chilly weather and spooky atmosphere, Mean Mother Nick picks Justin Verlander , leaving Delmon Young to fall to Chuck. Of course he's since been traded.

 

2008 - Horseshoe Lounge, Collinsville, IL. Lincecum and Hunter Pence to Smitty.

 

2009 – Smugala’s Pizza. First of three at this pizza place.

 

2010 – Smugala’s Pizza. The new location.

 

2011 – Firehouse.

 

2012 – Smugala’s Pizza. The new location.

 

2013 -- Smugala's Pizza-

 

2014 – Smugala’s Pizza. Smugala’s becoming THE place to hold the STBL Draft. This year is first ever draft held before the cards have arrived.
